About Savage Universal
A worldwide leader in backgrounds and photographic products since 1937.
From our beginning in 1937 as a manufacturer of quality board and paper products, Savage has provided photographers the essential elements for success. Family-run from the start, we have a commitment to quality and innovation that defined who we were in the beginning and still defines who we are today.
Products such as photographic backgrounds continue to be a key focus of our manufacturing efforts, but there’s much more to the Savage story. We’re continuing to develop innovative products, especially in the studio equipment & lighting arenas, to meet the needs of today’s more diverse photography community—professionals and semiprofessionals alike.
About Slik Tripods
Some companies simply slap their brand name on a cheap copy to make a quick buck. One company even went so far as to list SLIK's model number on their copy's hanging tag. They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, we think that speaks for itself.
SLIK has been quietly designing and manufacturing their own high-quality tripods for more than 50 years. SLIK has won 6 prestigious Japanese Ministry of Trade and Industry "Good Design" (G-Mark) awards. SLIK's original and innovative designs have been copied so many times that some of their ideas have become industry standards.
Don't settle for a cheap copy, check out the quality and heritage of SLIK tripods, monopods, and heads here on-line and at your local camera store.
Founded in 2008 by Seattle photographer Ron Henry, BLACKRAPID was established from a revolutionary idea. Ron saw a need for an ergonomic solution for all day shoots and so the original camera sling™ was born.. Our patented ConnectR and FastenR system allows your camera to quickly glide up the strap and into shooting position, improving the speed, comfort and efficiency when it matters most – never miss a shot. Trusted by photographers worldwide, we create our products with high quality materials and innovative designs. We know you’ll feel the BLACKRAPID difference from the moment you first put on one of our straps.
In 2002, when Internet companies were collapsing right and left, we decided to start SmugMug—a safe, beautiful home for our photos. We were two passionate photographers who happened to be father and son going up against the likes of Microsoft, Yahoo!, Canon, and Kodak—but we did it anyway. We were too excited about the future of photography and technology to be reasoned with.
Passion became our business model. Digital cameras began outselling film cameras by 2003, and within three years of launching, we became trustees for the precious photos of 50,000 customers. Meanwhile, many of our competitors—the sharing sites of trusted brands—had all but disappeared.
Some of the biggest tech companies in the world have offered to buy us out over the years, but we’ve always turned them down. We’re already successful: we get to take care of billions of beautiful photos and millions of amazing customers every day.
Today, we’re as passionately dedicated to people who invest time, energy, and love into their photos as we were when we started. We strive each day to make you look good and to help you improve your craft. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a professional or a hobbyist, whether you’re branding your portfolio or documenting your life. As long as you care about photos, you’re in.
